How to Tip Like a Gentleman

Proper tipping etiquette is still a trait rarely found in modern men yet, when perfected, it can actually become quite enjoyable. It’s a selfless act of giving to others based on the level of service you’ve received. A lot of these people get a pitiful wage and the tips they get go a long way to supplement their income. Make them happy and you’ll be looked after. Annoy them and you’d be best advised to eat your meal with caution!

Recycle Your iPod/Cell Phones

In an effort to help the environment, Apple Inc. has come out with a new recycling program. You can now recycle your old iPods, iPhones, and cell phones from all other manufactures for free. All you have to do is go to their websites recycling page, fill out the information, and send it in. They even pay for shipping.

Also, If you are looking to save a little on you next iPod purchase you can bring your old iPod into an Apple Store and save 10%. Thats not bad, especially if your eying that new 32GB iPod Touch (I so want one).

Friends and Money: Coping with Social Spending Situations

Explain your goals. Let your family and friends know that you’re trying to get out of debt or are saving to buy your first house. By making your goals explicit, you should decrease the amount of pressure they give you. (And the amount of pressure you give yourself.) Conversations about money don’t have to be uncomfortable. By honestly sharing your struggles and goals, you encourage those around you to examine their own spending as well. Ask your friends to help you be good, rather than pressure you to do something you’ll regret later. Continue Reading>>

Shopping Online? Check for Deals First!

The college kids and I found this nifty website that lets you find coupon codes for tons of online sites. The website is called Retail Me Not and it lets you find deals through their site or through their Firefox extension. The extension is cool because it will automatically notify you if the site you are on has any coupons.

How to Save Your Money

College Kids,

I am going into college this fall and was wondering if you had any tips on how to manage your money?

WuTang Says: Diversify Yo Bonds!

Vicky,

As a college kid I know how difficult it can be to save your money. When your on your own there can be lots of temptations. Here are some tips from my experiences:

Do not look at your money - Direct deposit is amazing. If your job offers it (and most companies do) you should definitely use it. Not seeing your money means you are less likely to spend it and that is a good thing.

Make a budget - once your moved in and start getting into a routine, make a budget. See how much money your making and budget out how much you can spend. Take your most important cost and spend your money on those first. Also remember, just because you have money does not mean you should spend it.

Let your money work for you - As the WuTang Clan always says: you need to diversify yo bonds! Just because your a college kid does not mean you should not invest. In fact, this is the best time to invest. Of course not everyone is a stock market guru, but anyone can put their money in a CD account.

Save for your weak spots - People usually have certain times during the year when they always come up short on cash. For me that is always right before Christmas and before summer break. I would recommend throwing some cash in a CD account that will expire right before your low cash period. Your future self will thank you, trust me.

Also....

  • Save your change
  • Recycle (you would not believe how much you get from those "soda" cans)
  • Wait for sales
  • Clip cupons
  • Always bring your own food to work
  • Be easy on the magazine subscriptions
  • Do you really need 500 channels?
  • Ebay is your friend.

Finally, you must always remember, you are a college educated adult and you can save your money. If any of you have any other tips for saving your cash please send them to support@askacollegekid.com.

I Need Money...

College Kids,

I need money. I'm thinking about counterfeiting some. Got any ideas?

Jimbo,

Print out as many of these as possible.

This will only make sense if you watch The Office, and if you don't, you should.

Good Luck!
