Ladies and Gentlemen,
Words cannot describe how frustrated I have been over the past few weeks. I am sure you have tried to visit College Kid, and you got the very ugly, and rude 404 message (not available). Something happened with our hosting company, and it killed us. We could not find what was wrong and they were very unhelpful because I was talking to them for the past two weeks and got no real help. I just wanted to apologize to all our dedicated readers (and you know who you are) because obviously being down for two weeks is unacceptable. It happened at the worst time too, during FINALS. I was already freaking out enough, but of course our website had to go down at the same time.
You WILL see posts coming your way, and I guarantee that because Ask a College Kid has new headquarters located in the beautiful city of Boston where it inspires us everyday.
See you soon,
The College Kids

Boots, Glasses, Boyfriend(s) - Rated-R
Not since the days of Nazi Germany has there ever been such a collaborative consensuses among a group of people to look the same, talk the same, and act the same. And no, I'm not talking about the Illuminati or the new world order or the US-ID act that all these conspiracy theorists have us up in arms about. I'm talking about a bigger enemy. A stronger enemy. One that lacks a penis. Women. -Read More
College Kid Music Discovery: Hilltop Hoods
Over break, all the college kids were hanging out like we do, and a song came on that I didn't recognize. It had an awesome beat and I instantly wanted to press the repeat button (which I did). It was a nice break from the hip-hop we all here on the radio everyday which is mostly quite annoying (except of course Snoop Dogg's new single Sensual Seduction). -Read More
Firefox: Campus Edition
Firefox just released a web browser specifically for college students that has three great features you can't beat. Some people might be familiar with these, and others may not. -Read More

Back to School
Back to school. Back to school, to prove to Dad that I'm not a fool. I got my lunch packed up, my boots tied tight, I hope I don't get in a fight. Ohhhh, back to school. Back to school. Back to school. Well, here goes nothing.
That's right, I just quoted Billy Madison because it's about that time again where everyone is starting up their second semester. It's tough getting back into your normal routine after partying with your best friends for a straight month, but it must be done.
I just wanted to let all our readers know that we haven't been slacking we just been really, REALLY busy. We've added two new writers and we are redesigning the whole site (which should be done soon :D).
One last thing, I want to remind all college students to NOT buy from their college bookstores unless they absolutely need to. Buy from Amazon.com or some other online book store because you will literally save hundreds (I just did).
Cheers,

Jenkem - The New Drug?
So a new fad that is becoming "popular" according to the media is a drug called Jenkem, also known as The Human Waste Drug or Butt Hash. Any drug with the words butt or human waste just doesn't seem very appetizing.
I did a little research on the well known Wikipedia to find that it is obviously very dangerous; I mean you are "huffing" fecal matter. The drug is a gas that is created from fermenting human waste in a bottle with some type of balloon over the top to catch the gas.
Wikipedia states:
The general concerns related to "huffing" and hallucinogenic drugs apply to Jenkem usage. The possibility of fecal-oral contamination due to lacking hygienic conditions during Jenkem manufacturing, which could lead to diarrhea and other gastrointestinal infections, must also be considered. Here is a recent news clip on Jenkem:

Canadian Study: Piracy Boosts CD Sales
University of London researchers, Birgitte Andersen and Marion Frenz surveyed a large group of Canadians to find out what the effect of piracy is on music sales. The results are surprising, at least, for the music industry.
The researchers conclude that that people who download more music actually buy more CDs. They report: “We estimate that the effect of one additional P2P download per month is to increase music purchasing by 0.44 CDs per year.”
This basically means that if someone downloads 270 songs a year via BitTorrent, he or she will buy 9 CDs more than someone who only downloads 27 songs. So, in a way illegal downloads actually convert into more CD sales.
Overall the researchers found no difference between pirates and other people in the number of CDs they buy. They did not find a positive or a negative relationship between filesharing and CD sales. So, at worst, filesharing isn’t the cause for a drop in CD sales. It might even be a boon to it.
This study once again confirms that piracy is not as bad as the recording industry content “owners” want us to believe. Filesharing gives people the opportunity to discover new music for free. It makes it easier to try new music before you buy. Right now, downloading songs off P2P networks is pretty much the only way to listen to complete tracks before deciding to buy them.
It is worth mentioning that there are legal alternatives, like Soundpedia and Lala.com’s upcoming service, which will let you stream entire songs for free. However, most people will still prefer pirated music because the quality is much better and they can transfer it to their MP3 player.

We've Been Robbed by Ebaums!!
Many of you have seen our recent article on glow stick photography. Our goal was to show our users how to do something fun and different with their digital cameras. We spent a few minutes gathering supplies, a few minutes setting up the shoot, and then spent about an hour trying different things with the camera. Eventually we ended up with a simple tutorial and a small collection of examples.
However, this morning we woke up and noticed (thanks to one of our users, thanks man!) that EbaumsWorld has taken all of the photos from the tutorial and posted them on their website, giving us no credit whatsoever. Ebaums is profiting from our original work, without asking out permission or giving us any credit. This is wrong, and not to mention, a violation of United States copyright law.
Here is a screen shot of the plagiarism in action. We need help dealing with this! After all, we're just a bunch of poor college kids. We don't have the money to take the kind of legal action that would resolve this situation.
Please, head over to Ebaums and leave a comment below the pictures telling them that this is theft and plagiarism. Digg and reddit this article, tell your friends, email, whatever you can do, however small, will be a great help. As a photographer, I feel violated after this incident. I think anyone else who does anything creative would feel the same way.
-Edit- Link to the plagiarism: Our Stolen Work
Ebaums has done this before with other artists. Don't allow them to continue! Of course, I want to take the time here to thank our users, both new visitors and our regulars. I hope you enjoy the site, and as always, keep checking back for updates.
