We've Been Robbed by Ebaums!!

Many of you have seen our recent article on glow stick photography. Our goal was to show our users how to do something fun and different with their digital cameras. We spent a few minutes gathering supplies, a few minutes setting up the shoot, and then spent about an hour trying different things with the camera. Eventually we ended up with a simple tutorial and a small collection of examples.

However, this morning we woke up and noticed (thanks to one of our users, thanks man!) that EbaumsWorld has taken all of the photos from the tutorial and posted them on their website, giving us no credit whatsoever. Ebaums is profiting from our original work, without asking out permission or giving us any credit. This is wrong, and not to mention, a violation of United States copyright law.

Here is a screen shot of the plagiarism in action. We need help dealing with this! After all, we're just a bunch of poor college kids. We don't have the money to take the kind of legal action that would resolve this situation.

Please, head over to Ebaums and leave a comment below the pictures telling them that this is theft and plagiarism. Digg and reddit this article, tell your friends, email, whatever you can do, however small, will be a great help. As a photographer, I feel violated after this incident. I think anyone else who does anything creative would feel the same way.

-Edit- Link to the plagiarism: Our Stolen Work

Ebaums has done this before with other artists. Don't allow them to continue! Of course, I want to take the time here to thank our users, both new visitors and our regulars. I hope you enjoy the site, and as always, keep checking back for updates.

College kids and the Police

The other night the college kids got together to get into some mischief and what do you know the Po come rollin' in. We were down at a local area which I guess you could classify as a park, but people just go down there to party, graffiti, you know...get into trouble. We were coming out of one of the trails heading for the parking lot. There was still about 1/4 of a mile between the lot and us and a car pulled up. We didn't think anything of it until a light on the car starts moving (the spot light that rotates on a squad car). We smoothly turn around and walk the other direction and that was pretty much the end of it.

This situation though has brought up an area college kids don't know much about and fear. When it comes to police, you need to know what to expect and how to deal with them. These three links provide good information about the Po Po.

Hobbies

College kids,

Besides getting belligerently drunk at college, what hobbies do you guys have that occupy the rest of your time?

Joe
19 years old
Manchester, CT

Joe,

I'll let you know what I do, and if the rest of the crew wants to throw another post about this there more than welcome to.

I have variety of hobbies that keep me sane here at college. Without these things I wouldn't know what to do with myself.

I love to DJ and "scratch it up" if you will:

College Essays

College kids,

How many pages is your typical college essay?

Sarah
17 years old
Rhode Island

Sarah,

The amount of pages for an essay varies as you may assume. I am a history major and a usual essay for me is around 5-6 pages. However, at times I have research papers that can reach up to about 10 pages. Really varies on the topic you have just like in high school but expect usually around 5 pages, double spaced, with 12 point font.

Colleges we applied to

College kids,

I am trying to figure out what schools I want to apply to. I have so many and I'm not sure if I should apply to all of them. What should I do?

Tim
17 years old
Boston, MA

Tim,

It all depends on how confident you feel with getting into those schools. I applied to about 8 schools all over New England. I wasn't the brightest in high school so my transcript was alright. I felt more comfortable having a variety of backups, but not all people need that reassurance. The other College Kids applied to 4-5 schools, and I even had a friend who just applied to one. I hope this helps.

Good Luck,

The College Kids
